The Merano Boston, a mixed-used complex that will be packed with amenities and conveniences, is currently rising in the city's North End neighborhood. Altogether, it should cost about $165 million to build, and it's scheduled to open its doors during the summer of 2016.
This development will be comprised of two distinct but connected buildings, each of which will have 14 stories. In appearance, these structures will be delightful. Their exteriors will boast an array of materials, including concrete and brick, and their gleaming glass curtain walls will surely entice many pedestrians to stop and take a look. Overall, it's a design that pays tribute to the city's storied past yet still looks fun and contemporary ― perhaps even a little futuristic.
The Merano Boston is slated to have 230 living units, and a parking section will occupy the second and third floors. The plans also call for an expansive terrace on the roof. It will be immaculately landscaped, and it will provide stunning views in every direction.
The ground floor of the Merano Boston, meanwhile, will house upscale retail and dining establishments. To be precise, there will be 4,700 square feet of space for shops and 13,000 square feet for restaurants. Thus, whenever they'd like, tenants can have an exciting night out simply by going downstairs.
Further, the Merano Boston will contain 210 Courtyard by Marriott rooms. Courtyard by Marriott, a division of Marriott International, operates hotels that are especially popular with families and businesspeople. This company will install the Merano Boston's fitness area and swimming pool, and those facilities will be open to all of the property's residents and hotel guests.
Approximately 15 percent of the Merano Boston's living units will be studios, and a quarter of them will contain two bedrooms. The majority of apartments will have one bedroom. What's more, 30 of these units will be affordable, and many will offer private balconies.
The address of the Merano Boston is 239 Causeway Street, and that location represents one of the complex's top draws. It will overlook the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway, a gorgeous series of parks, and the Zakim Bridge, which is splendid to behold when it's illuminated at night. These apartments will provide views of many other historic buildings too.
Moreover, the Merano apartments will be close to North Station, a major transportation hub, as well as subway stations and bus stops. It's an ideal setting for people who rely on public transit, bicycles, and their own feet to get around. Thus, some Merano residents won't need to own a car.
The esteemed and award-winning group CBT Architects designed the Merano Boston, and the Boston Development Group (BDG) is overseeing the building of this massive project. BDG actually offered to create this complex in 2008. However, after the U.S. economy fell into recession that year, the start of construction was delayed until early 2013. When the property does finally open, though, it should herald the start of a new era in Boston luxury living.
